Lead‐free versus PZT: Acoustic characterization of ultrasonic immersion transducers fabricated with lead‐free NBT‐BT piezoceramic

چکیده

An evaluation of the performance a recently developed formulation (lead-free) Sodium-Bismuth titanate – Barium Titanate (NBT-BT) piezoceramic is presented through construction and testing several immersion transducers based around new material “Pz12” from CTS Ferroperm (Kvistgaard, Denmark). Results are intended to yield insight into applicability this lead-free for use within industrial, NDT, medical or underwater sectors reporting experimentally realised characteristics. tests reported including: pulse-echo amplitude, electrical insertion loss, transducer efficiency, power output transmitting voltage response (TVR). Benchmarking provided against comparable lead zirconate-titanate (PZT) using an industry standard Navy Type 1 (Pz26, Ferroperm). Performance Pz12 was found exceed expectations, although lower than that Pz26 transducers. Pulse-echo amplitudes indicated −4.3 dB relative amplitude between variants with loss both showing average −3.1 Pz26. Electroacoustic conversion efficiencies up 52% compared 62% maximum efficiency variant. Temperature stability also investigated in 10–70 ˚C range.

Piezoceramic Element Design and Fabrication for Ultrasonic Transducer of Gas Meter

Ultrasonic transducers play a significant role in generating and receiving the acoustic waves in ultrasonic flowmeters. Depending on the required accuracy, the ultrasonic transducers can be installed either in one pair or more in an ultrasonic flowmeter. The main part of an ultrasonic transducer is its piezoceramic element. In this work, four piezoceramic elements with different diameter to thi...

Silicon micromachined ultrasonic immersion transducers

Broadband transmission of ultrasound in water using capacitive, micromachined transducers is reported. Transmission experiments using the same pair of devices at 4, 6, and 8 MHz with a signal-to-noise ratio greater than 48 dB are presented. Transmission is observed from 1 to 20 MHz. Better receiving electronics are necessary to demonstrate operation beyond this range. Furthermore, the same pair...

Fabrication and characterization of annular-array, high-frequency, ultrasonic transducers based on PZT thick film

In this work, low temperature deposition of ceramics, in combination with micromachining techniques have been used to fabricate a kerfed, annular–array, high–frequency, micro ultrasonic transducer (with seven elements). This transducer was based on PZT thick film and operated in thickness mode. The 27 μm thick PZT film was fabricated using a low temperature (720 oC) composite sol-gel ceramic (s...

Dynamic Modelling of Embeddable Piezoceramic Transducers

Embedded Lead Zirconate Titanate (PZT) transducers have been widely used in research related to monitoring the health status of concrete structures. This paper presents a dynamic model of an embeddable PZT transducer with a waterproof layer and a protecting layer. The proposed model is verified by finite-element method (FEM). Based on the proposed model, the factors influencing the dynamic prop...

Mathematical modeling of the radiated acoustic field of ultrasonic transducers

Ultrasonic inspection techniques are widely used for nondestructive evaluation of materials. Mathematical modeling provides an efficient and reliable method to assist the design of the inspection application and the analysis of its results. In this work we use a method based on the Rayleigh-Sommerfeld integral to express the pressure in a fluid generated by different ultrasonic devices like mon...
